P4: Setting up camera and film equipment
To begin filming our Powerbeats Pro advert, we must set up the equipment to get our footage. We used two Canon 250D cameras to get great quality shots, two tripods to get smooth and steady shots and two microphones for great audio quality. We used the gun mics for the dubbed voice overlay in the post-production. In the pictures below you will see the process we took to set up the equipment.
In my group, I was the actor while I also planned shot ideas for the house scenes, bus stop scenes and library scenes. Faith helped to film the bus stop scenes and library scenes, and Ellie filmed videos of two buses going past. We captured footage as a group and then used the footage to create our own advert. This is beneficial as we can all put own ideas into separate pieces of work.
I have done the acting, voice-overs, editing and Photoshop designs for this project. For Photoshop designs I had to create a thumbnail for the advert and as a group we decided we were going to use Powerbeat's Pro as the product that we will advertise.
During this project, there are legal constraints that I must abide to avoid any issues with copyright. There are also ethical and moral issues that I must follow to make sure my advert is suitable for all. As this is an advert that would be streamed on TV and on-demand sites like YouTube we must follow laws set by BBFC and ASA. BBFC regulate TV and on-demand services to make sure content is lawful and is not misleading, false or contain any violence, sexual content or swearing and dangerous activities, and as I want the advert to be rated U by BBFC, we must follow all rules.
ASA regulate adverts to ensure it is not misleading or false because if we don’t follow these laws we could be copyright striked and could have our advert taken down or at worst we could face lawsuits. Copyright is a law that protects someones own work from being used without their permission. I will not use copyrighted content in my work to make sure it is lawful. I can pay for royalties on a product which would make sure I can use the product however I want to or I could use royalty free content so that I can use and distribute however I want to. I could use creative commons however that means I would have to follow rules set out by the creator, which could be very limiting to the project.
Libel is a set of written published statements that can be damaging to a persons reputation. In the advert there will be no graphics that can mention or damage anyone's reputation. Slander is a spoken statement that also damages a person’s reputation. In the advert the actor will not speak about anybody negatively as we want to make sure our advert is ethical. Ofcom also controls TV, where there is a law that states that any content not suitable for children must not be aired before 9PM. To make sure our advert is suitable for all ages we will follow all rules and regulations set out by these companies. While filming, safety was thought about at all times, as we were filming next to a busy road we had to make sure not to trip incase anyone fell into the road.
